I brought this peasant skirt years ago, back when they were “in”, and it’s been one of my staple wardrobe skirts ever since.
Why? It’s elastic-waisted and made of soft cotten, which means it’s comfy. It’s black, so it goes with everything, and it’s versetile, as I shall demonstrate.
I am a fan of this particular style with the rising hemline at the front, because it gives a bit of interest. I don’t like “straight across hemlines”. I think they look dull. It looks awesome when I wear it as a dress:

I am wearing:
- black peasant skirt, Shanton
black t-shirt (it has little corinthian helmets on the front, but you can’t see them), National Museum of Greece, Athens – note: that is a museum, not a clothing label.
sparkly black belt from valleygirl
Ankh socks, Sock Shop, Wacken Open Air
Jeffrey Campbell wedges
vintage necklace given to me by a neighbour (it belonged to her daughter, who had been killed in a car crash) when I was about four years old, and my cartouche necklace from Egypt.

I enjoyed wearing this so much I changed the necklace and added this black vest, and this is what I wore to work.
- vest, Shanton
pewter cross necklace from a random surf shop.

And lastly, I pulled it back down to it’s actual skirt length and teamed it with my Queen of Darkness nursey top (apparently, it’s a dress, but I find that a mighty short dress, even for a nurse).

I don’t know how long it will be before peasant skirts show up in the shops again, but you can normally find them in second-hand stores or from hippie shops / gypsy fairs. You can actually style them so they don’t make you look like a romany.
Off to skin a squirrel for dinner.

The skirt is nice, but the weather looks GREAT :)
I think New Zealand’s weather is the only bad thing about the whole country.

I have had three summers in a row, and it’s April and I JUST WANT IT TO RAIN, GODDAMIT. :)
Everyone in NZ thinks we live in a tropical paradise – we don’t, but you have to admire their dedication to the delusion.
That skirt is awesome! Skirts worn as dresses = extra win.
