Have you ever been walking around, minding your own metalhead business, when you notice some idiot throwing the horns at his friends? This person wears no black t-shirt, knows not Behemoth from Beyonce and has never set foot inside a metal concert.
Have you ever seen a non-metal friend complete a mundane activity, like washing his car or feeding his cat, and throw the horns upon completion of said task, as if celebrating the supreme kreigness that is his life?

I call horns misuse! What is this shit? That is not a grymn and frostbitten picnic!
Have you ever seen pictures of non-metal celebrities like Hannah Montana abusing the goat?

Miley Cyrus misappropriating the metal horns

Disney's Serena Gomez misusing the horns
I have seen these things, and they are a terrible injustice upon our sacred symbol. And this behavior will stop.
Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider – a man renowned for fighting the good metal fight – has dedicated himself to taking back the metal horns. In the mission statement for this worthwhile project, Dee lays out his complaints:
What was once a symbol of solidarity and rebellion exclusively for a community of metal heads, has now become a casual symbol, signifying any modicum of success at anything or just something to do with your hands in any photo that isn’t a wedding picture or a mug shot (though I have seen the horns thrown in one or two wedding photos).
This is wrong! Name one thing the metal community has appropriated from any other genre. Okay, we took the denim and leather jackets from the biker community…but they’re cool with it. I think. But other than that? Exactly!
Well, enough is enough. It’s time we–the heavy metal community–take our horns back! We need to lay down the law and reclaim that which is rightfully ours. Let’s identify the perpetrators/violators and let them know that they are treading on sacred ground! Let’s post photos of celebrity violators on this website and send them e-mails, citations and letters calling them out on their misuse and demanding they cease Metal Horn usage! We will let them know that we know…and we don’t like it.
And as far as, Joe and Jane Non Headbanger go, we need to publicly call them out and shun them (there’s nothing quite like a good shunning) for their misuse of the horns and issue them warnings against any future use. (You will find an easy to print form available on this site.) We must let them all know that we–the heavy metal community–are watching…and we’re not gonna take it anymore! (I had to get that in there somewhere.)
Users have already uploaded hundreds of “horny” pictures and you can rate them metal or not. CDH spent two hours last night rating all the pictures and got so angry about the misue of horns his mother had to tell him to shut up. He’s still mumbling under his breath about Hannah Montana stealing his “cultural identity”.
There’s a forum to connect with other pissed-off metalheads and great articles written by Dee on the origin and correct usage of the metal horns.
So if you’re a metalhead concerned about the misappropriation of your cultural symbol, or you just think Miley Cyrus and emos shouldn’t be allowed to throw the horns, check out Dee’s site.
